A beautifully written and quite moving piece about your black poplar, Nic. I thoroughly enjoyed reading it!

We live and work with some of the oldest trees in the World. Bristlecone pines live to the south. Giant redwoods live to the east. Coastal redwoods that live here do not live as long as bristlecone pines or giant redwoods, but live for thousands of years nonetheless. Yet, even they do not last forever. We lost one this last winter. It is saddening, but a normal part of nature.

Yes, you’re absolutely right of course. I guess with the dearth of mature trees, especially black poplars, in our area, it makes it particularly poignant.
